In a traffic accident that occurred in Izmir on March 9, 2025, retired Colonel Himmet Konuk and his wife Muhterem Konuk lost their lives, while their daughter and grandchildren were seriously injured. The driver, C.G., who had a blood alcohol level of 230 promille, was arrested after the accident. It was learned that C.G.'s driver's license was revoked until 2029. He was later released on bail. The release, which came just 1.5 months later, devastated the grieving family.
A new development that infuriated the grieving family occurred in the traffic accident that took place on March 9, 2025, in the Kemalpaşa district of İzmir. A car driven by Himmet Konuk, which was heading towards İzmir from the direction of Salihli, was rapidly hit by another car that changed lanes coming from the opposite direction; in the said accident, Muhterem Konuk lost her life at the scene, while Himmet Konuk was seriously injured.
THE KONUK COUPLE HAD DIED
Despite all the interventions at Celal Bayar University, Konuk could not be saved. The damage to the vehicle involved in the accident revealed the severity of the incident; the daughters of the Konuk couple and their 3-year-old granddaughter, who were in the car, were also seriously injured.
A military ceremony was held in Salihli for the retired colonel Himmet Konuk and his wife Muhterem Konuk who lost their lives in the accident; after the military ceremony, the Konuk couple was buried in the neighborhood cemetery following the funeral prayer.
HE WAS BOTH DRUNK AND HAD NO LICENSE
C.G., who caused the accident, was taken under treatment in the hospital; it was revealed that C.G. was 230 promille drunk at the time of the accident and that his license had been revoked until 2029 for previously driving under the influence.
RELEASED 1.5 MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT
It was learned that C.G., who was arrested after the accident, was released from prison on the grounds that his treatment was not possible. C.G.'s sentence was postponed for 3 months in accordance with the Forensic Medicine report, and he was released under judicial control.
THE GRIEVING FAMILY WAS ONCE AGAIN DEVASTATED AND INFURIATED
The release of C.G., who was banned from leaving the country, devastated the grieving family once again and infuriated them.

Family members stated that having a drunk, unlicensed, and criminal driver on the streets puts others in danger and called for justice.
