The police intervened in an unauthorized demonstration in Iğdır yesterday, detaining 48 people. DEM Party Co-Chair Deniz Kaynar was arrested, while some other members were released.

Deniz Kaynar, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, who was detained in relation to the unauthorized demonstration that was attempted in Iğdır yesterday, has been arrested.

INTERVENTION IN UNAUTHORIZED DEMONSTRATION IN IĞDIR

A group that gathered in front of the DEM Party Provincial Presidency yesterday afternoon wanted to hold a sit-in, a march, and a press statement regarding the developments in Syria. The police warned the group about the unauthorized action and asked them to disperse. When the group resisted, police teams intervened. A total of 48 people, including DEM Party Provincial Co-Chair Deniz Kaynar, were detained. Three police officers were also injured during the incidents.

DEM PARTY CHAIR ARRESTED

Of the 48 people detained by the police, 30 were released after their statements at the police station. 18 people, including Kaynar, were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station. Among the suspects who appeared before the judge, Kaynar was arrested. Party member Medet Serhat was placed under house arrest, while Halil Tören was given a travel ban abroad, and the other 15 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.
