DEVA Party Deputy Chairman and Member of Parliament Mehmet Emin Ekmen made exclusive remarks to Haberler.com about the fistfight in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

In the TBMM, the extraordinary session held for Can Atalay, who was elected as a deputy from Hatay and later had his deputyship revoked, started off tense. After the second break, the session resumed and chaos broke out when Alpay Özalan intervened in Ahmet Şık's speech at the podium, fists started flying. The session was then adjourned.

DEVA Party Deputy Chairman and Member of Parliament Mehmet Emin Ekmen was a guest on Rana Topatan's show. Ekmen gave exclusive details about the fistfight in the parliament to Haberler.com.

"AHMET ŞIK USED 'DISGRACEFUL' AND 'TERRORIST' WORDS"

Ekmen said, "The parliament opened, and first, there was a procedural debate. Then Ahmet Şık took the podium and used the word 'disgraceful.' After strong objections, the session was adjourned. When the session resumed, Ahmet Şık used the words 'disgraceful' and 'There is no bigger terrorist than you,' which led to Bekir Bozdağ's warnings and another adjournment of the session."

"WE THOUGHT THE SESSION WAS STILL ONGOING"

Ekmek, who understood that the session was adjourned from the parliamentary records, said, "Since we were there live, we thought the session was still ongoing. When the session was adjourned, Alpay Özalan ran from where he was and punched Ahmet Şık at the podium. This detail is important because Alpay Özalan punched after the session was adjourned, so AK Party has a defense that there will be no salary deduction and a 3-session ban from participating in parliamentary activities according to the Parliamentary Bylaws."

"THE BLOOD ON THE STAIRS OF THE PARLIAMENT BELONGS TO GÜLÜSTAN KOÇYİĞİT"

Ekmek, a member of the DEVA Party, said, "When the first incident happened, Gülüstan Koçyiğit jumped from where she was and got injured while trying to protect Ahmet Şık. Those bloodstains most likely belong to Koçyiğit. I also saw that the eyebrow of CHP Ankara Deputy Okan Konuralp was split, and I tried to accompany him outside. There are also many incidents of assault."

"EYÜP KADİR İNAN WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN THE FIGHT"

Ekmek stated that AK Party Izmir Deputy Eyüp Kadir İnan was also involved in the fight, saying, "Eyüp Kadir İnan has an incomprehensible rivalry with Alpay Özalan. I saw him attack and punch someone from the group two or three times deliberately from the outside."

"BLOOD CAN BE CLEANED, BUT THIS STAIN ON TURKISH DEMOCRACY CANNOT BE ERASED"

Ekmek, who stated that he was in the midst of the chaos during the fight, said, "I was there to calm down the opposition deputies and to remove them from the scene. There were bloodstains on the white marble next to the podium for about 7-8 meters. While the parliamentary staff called 'kavas' was trying to clean those bloodstains, I made a social media post saying, 'Blood can be cleaned, but this stain on Turkish democracy cannot be erased'."

"IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO AGREE WITH AHMET ŞIK'S STATEMENTS"

Ekmek, a member of the DEVA Party, ended his words as follows: "It is not possible to agree with Ahmet Şık's 'disgraceful' and 'terrorist' statements. We can criticize it strongly, but it does not give us the right to physically attack Ahmet Şık."
