04.09.2024 20:10

Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, who was arrested and later released due to her statements in a street interview in Izmir, has been sentenced to 7 months and 15 days in prison for the crime of 'inciting hatred and enmity among the public'. She is now facing charges of 'insulting the President' and could be sentenced to up to 4 years in prison.

In an interview on the streets of Izmir, Dilruba Kayserilioğlu criticized the blocking of Instagram and the animal law. She was arrested on August 12th. Her lawyer, Hüseyin Yıldız, objected to her detention on charges of "incitement to hatred and enmity" and "insulting the President". However, the objection was rejected.

RELEASED ON AUGUST 29TH

Upon a second objection, Dilruba Kayserilioğlu's detention on charges of "insult" was lifted and a travel ban was imposed. Another objection was made for the release of Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, who was still in detention on charges of "incitement to hatred and enmity". As a result of this last objection, Kayserilioğlu was released on August 29th.

SHE HAD RECEIVED 7 MONTHS AND 15 DAYS IMPRISONMENT

Dilruba Kayserilioğlu appeared before the judge yesterday on charges of "incitement to hatred and enmity" under articles 216/1 and 2 and 218 of the Turkish Penal Code. The court acquitted Dilruba Kayserilioğlu of the charge of "incitement to hatred and enmity" and sentenced her to 6 months in prison for "publicly insulting a section of the public". The court increased the sentence to 9 months under Article 218 of the Turkish Penal Code, as the crime was committed through the press. The court also reduced the sentence to 7 months and 15 days by applying a 1/6 reduction for good behavior. The judge postponed the announcement of the verdict and lifted the judicial control decision regarding Dilruba Kayserilioğlu.

CHARGED WITH INSULTING THE PRESIDENT

The Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment against Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, this time on charges of "insulting the President". Dilruba Kayserilioğlu will be tried and could face up to 4 years in prison.
