World leaders gathered in Egypt after Hamas and Israel reached an agreement on U.S. President Donald Trump's peace and ceasefire plan for Gaza.

Many country leaders, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, arrived in Egypt for the Gaza summit to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

SIGNATURES WERE SIGNED

The leaders later signed a declaration of intent for Gaza. It was notable that only U.S. President Trump, President Erdoğan, Egyptian President Sisi, and the Emir of Qatar were at the forefront.

TRUMP: WE DID WHAT WAS SAID TO BE IMPOSSIBLE

U.S. President Donald Trump made striking statements at the Gaza ceasefire and peace summit held in Egypt. In his statement, Trump said, "We built lasting peace in the Middle East, something everyone said was impossible."

"WE HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH ERDOĞAN"

Trump also stated, "We have a good relationship with President Erdoğan. He has always been by our side whenever we needed him, and I thank him very much."

"WORLD WAR III WILL NOT START IN THE MIDDLE EAST"

Trump said, "We have collectively ended the war in Gaza. Humanitarian aid is reaching Gaza. Gazans are working to rebuild their lives. Many countries want to contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza." He continued: "It will be a day that goes down in world history. It is important to lift the people of Gaza back on their feet. We do not want to be part of something that will cause brutality. We want to disarm the Middle East. We want to work to create a safer future here. They asked if World War III could break out here; that will not happen. Even if it does, it will not start here."

SISI: PEACE IS THE ONLY WAY FOR A TWO-STATE SOLUTION

On the other hand, Egyptian President Abdulfattah El Sisi, who hosted the summit, made statements at the Gaza Summit.

Sisi said, "We are trying to establish peace all over the world. I present Trump to you. We thank you for the peace plan you presented to end the tragic war here," and added, "We also thank our partners in the U.S., Qatar, and Turkey. We want to show both our support and our love. We want to achieve a two-state solution here, which is the only way to establish peace. We want to close the phase of war and open a new era of peace. We trust your leadership."

"WE EXPECT THE WAR TO END COMPLETELY"

We expect to achieve peace by completely ending the Gaza war. Gentlemen, today we are moving forward with determined steps as we did on April 19, 1977, at the Egypt summit where we gathered together. A historic visit to Jerusalem was also made. We are trying to establish peace and tranquility in the region. We see that we have no other solution. We must recognize fair and equal rights. These two nations have constantly tried to protect their sovereign rights. It should be noted that Palestine is not an exception and has the right to self-determination. They will be able to live peacefully alongside Israel. I want to address the people of Israel. Let us turn this historic moment into a peaceful coexistence. Let us provide lasting peace for the entire region. We are experiencing incredible relief here," he said.

WHAT HAPPENED?

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on October 9 that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of the ceasefire plan in Gaza during ongoing negotiations in Egypt. While the agreement was signed in Egypt where the negotiations took place, it was activated in the early hours of October 10 with the approval of the Israeli government.

Following the Israeli army's withdrawal from the "yellow line" as stated in the agreement, it was announced that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip came into effect at 12:00 on the same day.

In the attacks carried out by Israel on the Gaza Strip from October 8, 2023, until the ceasefire agreement, 67,682 people lost their lives, and 170,033 people were injured.
