A driver who jumped from a truck whose brakes failed on the Erzurum-Artvin highway in the Uzundere district has lost his life. Two people were injured when a car, maneuvering to avoid colliding with the driverless truck, rolled into a ditch.

On the Erzurum-Artvin highway, at the Yedigöller location in the Uzundere district, the brakes of a TIR driven by an Iranian national, whose name has not yet been learned, failed due to a technical malfunction while descending a ramp.

JUMPED TO SAVE HIS LIFE

Realizing he could not control the rapidly accelerating TIR, the Iranian driver jumped out of the moving vehicle to save his life. After the driver jumped, those in vehicles in the opposite lane noticed the uncontrolled and fast-approaching TIR and panicked greatly.

VEHICLE FLEW OFF THE ROAD WHILE TRYING TO AVOID THE TIR

To avoid a head-on collision with the TIR, the car made a sudden maneuver, crashed into roadside barriers, and then flew into a rocky area. The uncontrolled TIR came to a stop by tipping over in the middle of the road.

1 DEAD, 2 INJURED

Upon notification from other drivers who witnessed the accident, numerous gendarmerie and 112 Emergency Health teams were dispatched to the scene. Health teams determined that the driver who jumped from the TIR had died. The 2 people injured in the car that flew into the rocks were taken to Uzundere State Hospital after initial treatment.

Gendarmerie teams took security measures, and a comprehensive investigation into the accident has been launched.
