As the war in the Middle East shakes the oil markets, Brent crude is expected to rise above $100 again, and an increase in gasoline and diesel prices is anticipated starting from Friday. The increase in gasoline prices will be 47 kuruş, while the increase in diesel prices will be 76 kuruş. Recently, there was a reduction in gasoline and diesel prices at midnight.
A wave of panic is sweeping through global markets as the war in the Middle East spills over into energy lines. Following the attack on two tankers belonging to the U.S. off the coast of Iraq, Iraq has closed all its oil terminals, while Brent crude has once again surpassed the $100 barrier. The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the U.S., aiming to rein in prices, are releasing 400 million barrels of oil into the market in the largest emergency intervention in history. Turkey has also announced that it will release its reserve of 11.6 million barrels into the market.
FUEL PRICE INCREASE COMING
The rise in oil prices has reflected as an increase in fuel prices. Starting from Friday, there will be a price hike for gasoline and diesel. The increase for gasoline will be 47 kuruş, while the increase for diesel will be 76 kuruş.
THERE WAS A MIDNIGHT DISCOUNT
On the other hand, starting from Thursday, March 12, a discount of 3 lira for gasoline and 4 lira 58 kuruş for diesel was implemented. However, due to the escalator mobile system, not all of the discount was reflected in pump prices. According to the regulation, only 75 kuruş of the 3 lira discount on gasoline was reflected in the pump price, while the equivalent of the 4 lira 58 kuruş discount on diesel at the pump was 1 lira 15 kuruş.
HOW DOES THE ESCALATOR MOBILE SYSTEM WORK?
In the escalator mobile system, price increases in fuel due to international oil prices and exchange rates are covered by the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV). The VAT related to this is also waived. For example, if the increase is 10 lira, only 2.5 lira of this amount will be reflected in the market price. The remaining 7.5 lira is covered by taxes. Similarly, discounts on fuel are also deducted from the ÖTV through the escalator mobile system.
