Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Iryani announced that two missiles fell within 500 meters of a passenger plane ready for takeoff in the Iranian-backed Houthi attack on Aden Airport. The passengers and crew survived the attack.

Iryani said in a statement that during the attack, Yemen Airways flight IY 612 was preparing to take off from Aden International Airport to Cairo International Airport.

PASSENGERS AND CREW SURVIVED

Reporting that two missiles with which the Houthis targeted the airport fell about 500 meters from the plane and about 100 meters from the midpoint of the runway, Iryani noted that the passengers and crew survived.

Iryani stated that a major disaster, in which dozens of innocent passengers could have lost their lives, had been narrowly averted.

Emphasizing that the attack posed a direct threat to the lives of passengers and flight crews and to the safety of air travel, the Minister stated that it was a grave violation of international law and norms.

"CANNOT BE CONSIDERED A MILITARY SUCCESS"

Stating that the airport, where dozens of flights are operated every day, is a main gateway to the world for patients seeking treatment, students, and Yemenis living abroad, the Minister stressed that targeting such a facility cannot be considered a military success.

The Minister, stating that the Yemeni state, with the support of the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, will continue to protect the people, state institutions, and vital facilities, expressed his determination to end the Houthi threat, restore state authority, and ensure security and stability in the country.
