Earthquake expert Yoshinori Moriwaki: There is a risk of earthquakes in Bingöl, Karlıova, Muş, and Bitlis.

Japanese earthquake expert Yoshinori Moriwaki stated that there is a risk of earthquakes beyond the East Anatolian Fault Line. Emphasizing that buildings in cities along the fault line suffered significant damage in the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6th, Moriwaki listed the risky cities as "Bingöl, Karlıova, Muş, Bitlis, we can say this region."

Listing the risky cities, Moriwaki said, "We can say Bingöl, Karlıova, Muş, Bitlis, this region."

High construction engineer, architect and earthquake expert Yoshinori Moriwaki said that inspections should be carried out flawlessly for the construction of earthquake-resistant buildings. The Japanese expert attended the "Siirt International New Generation Youth Conversations and Earthquake Symposium" held at the Siirt Provincial National Education Conference Hall.

Yoshinori Moriwaki, who attended the symposium with crutches due to an accident, provided information about earthquakes that occurred in Turkey and around the world. Yoshinori Moriwaki stated that there is a risk of an earthquake beyond the East Anatolian Fault Line in the near future and said, "We can say Bingöl, Karlıova, Muş, Bitlis, this region."

Yoshinori Moriwaki pointed out that Siirt is located in the first-degree earthquake zone but emphasized that there has not been a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7 or higher in the city. Yoshinori Moriwaki recalled the words of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Mete Işıkara, known as the "Earthquake Grandfather" in Turkey, saying "Earthquakes do not kill, buildings do." and expressed his agreement with this statement.

"BUILDINGS SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE ON FEBRUARY 6"

Providing information about the building inspection system, Yoshinori Moriwaki stated that buildings that passed this system were damaged but did not collapse in the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. Yoshinori Moriwaki, who said "If we do it properly, the building will not collapse," used the expression "What is the problem? If there are 21 million buildings, unfortunately, more than 50% of them are unauthorized buildings. We need to control this well."

In his speech, Yoshinori Moriwaki also emphasized the importance of earthquake drills and the triangle of life. Governor Kemal Kızılkaya presented plaques to the Japanese expert and those who contributed to the symposium. The symposium was attended by Provincial Police Chief Necmettin Öztürk, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Emrullah Büyük, representatives of public institutions and non-governmental organizations, search and rescue teams, and students.
