Due to the snowfall that has shown its effects across the country, schools in Çorum, Amasya, Gümüşhane, Ordu, Samsun, Tokat, Bingöl, Yozgat, and Bayburt were closed on Wednesday, February 19.

A cold wave affecting Turkey has caused heavy snowfall in many provinces. To prevent potential disruptions in transportation and daily life, schools have been closed in 9 provinces. With consecutive statements from the governorships, schools were closed on Wednesday, February 19. Here are the provinces where schools are closed:

ÇORUM

In a written statement made by the Çorum Governorship, it was stated that due to the snowfall and weather conditions that have started in the city, negative situations may arise. "Considering student mobility, education and training in official and private kindergartens, preschools, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational training centers, adult education institutions, private teaching courses, special education and rehabilitation centers, and Quran courses in our central district and affiliated villages will be suspended for 1 day on Wednesday, February 19, by the decision of our Governorship. On the day schools are closed, female personnel with children attending kindergarten and preschool, as well as public employees with disabilities, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses will also be considered on administrative leave. The situation of personnel working in units providing services on a 24-hour basis, such as health and security, will be evaluated by the relevant unit managers as required by the service," it was stated. It was also noted that education was suspended for 1 day in the Osmancık and Alaca districts.

AMASYA

In a statement from the Amasya Governorship, it was stated; "As a precaution against potential negative situations that may arise due to expected snowfall throughout our province, education will be suspended for 1 day on Wednesday, February 19, in all official and private kindergartens, preschools, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational training centers, adult education institutions, maturation institutes, private teaching courses, and special education and rehabilitation centers. Additionally, female public employees with children attending kindergarten, preschool, and primary school, as well as disabled and pregnant public employees, will also be considered on administrative leave for 1 day," it was stated.

GÜMÜŞHANE

In a statement made by the Gümüşhane Governorship, it was noted that heavy snowfall is expected throughout the province starting from the morning hours of February 19, and education will be suspended for 1 day. The statement mentioned that to minimize disruptions in transportation and potential negative impacts on life and property safety due to weather conditions, education activities in all types and levels of formal and non-formal education institutions, special education and rehabilitation centers, private teaching courses, preschool education institutions, and official and private kindergartens will be suspended for 1 day. Public employees who are pregnant, disabled, injured, or have severe chronic illnesses, as well as female personnel with children attending kindergarten and preschool, will also be considered on administrative leave for 1 day.

ORDU

In a written statement from the Ordu Governorship, it was stated that due to the snowfall, frost risk, and icing that started in the inner parts of the province, education was suspended in all districts of Aybastı, Çaybaşı, Gölköy, Gürgentepe, İkizce, Kabadüz, Kabataş, Korgan, Kumru, and Ulubey.

The statement said, "Except for the Borsa İstanbul Boarding Regional Middle School and Fatih Middle School in Akkuş district, education will be suspended in all other schools. In Altınordu district, education will be suspended in Gerce Primary School, Gökömer Primary School, Cumhuriyet Middle School, and Yağızlı Primary/Secondary School, as well as for basic education and special education students coming from these neighborhoods. In Çamaş district, except for the Turkish Telecom Multi-Program Anatolian High School, education will be suspended in all other schools. In Fatsa district, education will be suspended in Aslancami Combined Class Primary School, Hatipli Primary School, Hatipli Middle School, Geyikçeli Primary/Secondary School, İslamdağ Primary/Secondary School, İslamdağ Imam Hatip Middle School, Demirci Combined Class Primary School, Ilıca Primary/Secondary School, Kulak Primary/Secondary School, and Yassıtaş Special Education Vocational School, as well as for secondary education and special education students transported from these regions. In Mesudiye district, except for the Borsa İstanbul Multi-Program Anatolian High School, education will be suspended in all other schools. In Ünye district, education will be suspended in Pelitliyatak Şehit Nejdet Aydoğdu Primary School, Pelitliyatak Imam Hatip Middle School, Yenikent Primary School, and Erenyurt Primary School. Additionally, for students coming from İkizce/Devecik-Kaynartaş-Düzmeşe neighborhoods, Çaybaşı district, Ünye-Pelitliyatak, and Yenikent neighborhoods, education will be suspended for 1 day in all official and private educational institutions (schools, public education center courses, rehabilitation centers, private teaching courses) on Wednesday, February 19, 2025." It was also stated that public employees who are pregnant and disabled working in schools that are completely closed for education and those working in schools that are partially closed will also be considered on administrative leave on the same day.

SAMSUN

The Samsun Provincial Directorate of National Education announced the districts and schools where education will be suspended for 1 day. In Alaçam district, education will be suspended in the central village schools and combined class village schools, while students transported to the district center will also be considered on leave.

In all official, private, formal, and non-formal education institutions in Asarcık district, in Sarayköy Primary and Secondary School and Özeren Primary and Secondary School in Atakum district, in all official, private, formal, and non-formal education institutions in Ayvacık district, and in Ortadurak, Müstecep Primary and Secondary School, Kolay Anatolian High School, and Kolay Primary School in Bafra district, education will be suspended. In Bafra district, students transported from Alaçam, Aşağı Koçlu to Osmanbeyli Special Education Application School; from Aydınpınar and Çetirlipınar to Bafra Special Education Vocational School; from Yakakent Asmapınar, Alaçam Etyemez to Seyhulas Special Education Vocational School; and from Azay-Barış neighborhoods to Mustafa Erdin Primary and Secondary School, as well as students transported from Kanlıgüney, Paşaşeyh, Müstecep, Kolay, Eynegazi, İlyaslı, Kanberli, Türkköyü, Dikencik, Darboğaz, and Köseli neighborhoods to the district center will also be considered on leave on Wednesday.

In Canik district, education will be suspended for 1 day in the central village schools and combined class village schools (including special education students), while students transported to the district center will be considered on leave.

In Çarşamba district, Köroğlu Primary School, Köroğludamat Primary School, Karakaya Primary School, and Gülören Primary School, Gökçeçakmak Primary and Secondary School, Kabaceviz Primary and Secondary School, Ağcagüney Anatolian High School, Ağcagüney Primary School, and Ağcagüney Middle School/Imam Hatip Middle School will be closed, while special education students coming from Bezirgan, Gülören, Koldere, Köroğlu, Karakaya, Ulupınar, Ağcagüney, Gökçeçakmak, Porsuk, Yeşildere, and Selimiye neighborhoods will also be considered on leave.

In Havza district, education will be suspended in all official, private, formal, and non-formal education institutions, and in İlkadım district, education will be suspended in Toybelen Primary and Secondary School, Çatkaya Primary and Secondary School, and all official transport center special education schools and classes.

Authorities warned citizens to be cautious against potential risks and adverse conditions that may arise due to unfavorable weather conditions.

BİNGÖL

In a statement from the Bingöl Governorship, it was stated, "Due to the ongoing heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions throughout our province, in order to take precautions against possible adverse conditions such as icing and transportation issues; all official and private schools and special education institutions in our districts of Adaklı, Karlıova, Kiğı, Yayladere, and Yedisu, as well as in Sancak Town and the village of Merkez Suduğünü, will suspend education for 1 (one) day on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Disabled and pregnant personnel working in public institutions in the mentioned districts, as well as in Sancak Town and Suduğünü village, will also be considered on administrative leave on the same day. For Bingöl Center, Genç, and Solhan districts; if there is an adverse change in weather conditions in the following hours, a reassessment will be made, and the public will be informed early in the morning. It is respectfully announced to the public."

YOZGAT

In a statement from the Yozgat Governorship, it was reported that education will be suspended and an administrative leave decision was made due to ongoing heavy snowfall and icing caused by low temperatures. The statement said, "Due to the risk of icing caused by ongoing snowfall and low temperatures in the city center on Wednesday, February 19, all formal and non-formal education institutions, special education and rehabilitation centers, special education courses, Quran courses, and nurseries serving the personnel of public institutions under the Ministry of National Education will suspend education for 1 day on Wednesday, February 19, 2025."

Additionally, it was reported that pregnant individuals, disabled individuals, public officials with chronic illnesses such as dialysis patients, heart and kidney failure, cancer, and mothers with children in preschool education institutions and rehabilitation centers that have been granted a holiday will also be considered on administrative leave. It was stated that holidays will be granted individually in districts depending on the precipitation situation.

BAYBURT

In the highlands of Bayburt, snowfall was effective during the night hours. In Aydıntepe district of Bayburt, where the meteorology issued a snowfall warning, schools were closed throughout the district due to heavy snow. In a statement made by the Aydıntepe District Governorate regarding the issue, it was stated, "Due to heavy snowfall, education will be suspended for 1 (one) day in primary and secondary education institutions (Primary, Secondary, and High Schools) throughout our district on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Additionally, disabled and pregnant public employees will be granted 1 (one) day of administrative leave."
