The lawyer of Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of the corruption investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Mehmet Pehlivan, was released under judicial control conditions after being detained at night.
PROCEDURES AT THE POLICE HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
The procedures of Mehmet Pehlivan, who was detained under the crime of "money laundering" and within the scope of the "Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering of Criminal Proceeds" by the Money Laundering Crime Investigation Office of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, have been completed.
HIS STATEMENT WAS TAKEN BY THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
Pehlivan, who was transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, had his statement taken by the prosecutor's office. The prosecutor's office referred Pehlivan to the peace criminal court with a judicial control measure in the form of a travel ban. Pehlivan was released under judicial control conditions.
"THE REPORT DOES NOT REFLECT THE TRUTH"
Mehmet Pehlivan's statement at the prosecutor's office has emerged. In his statement, Pehlivan said, "I know Mehmet Ali Çalışkan, whose name you mentioned, as a good intellectual. I do not have any prior power of attorney relationship or commercial relationship with him. I witnessed that the findings regarding the money transfers of the mentioned Financial Crimes Investigation Board were also asked to Ekrem İmamoğlu, whom I participated as a defense attorney in his previous statement. All the findings mentioned in the report as money transfers are lies and do not reflect the truth. Arrests have been made in the investigations based on these reports that do not reflect the truth. If I had not been detained regarding the individuals who prepared this report in a misleading and false manner, I would have filed a criminal complaint today. The report, as I said, does not reflect the truth. There is no money transfer that I sent directly to Mehmet Ali Çalışkan. Moreover, even if this money transfer had been made, it would not be possible to constitute a criminal element from it. Additionally, as a lawyer who comes to the courthouse every day regarding the relevant investigations, being detained in front of my client's house late at night and being kept at the police station is also against the Code of Criminal Procedure," it was learned.
"I SENT IT AS A DONATION"
In his statement, Pehlivan said, "The Reform Foundation is a think tank established by Ekrem İmamoğlu, whom I represent as a lawyer, and his friends. I became a member of the mentioned foundation because I am the lawyer of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the mayor of a city with 16 million inhabitants. The foundation carries out activities related to the resolution of education, health, and other social issues with the contributions of more than a hundred academics. I am a member and donor of the Reform Foundation. I sent the mentioned 2,400,000.00 Turkish liras as a donation. The investigation being conducted is due to my legal activities in previous investigations. Investigations are being conducted based on faulty and untrue reports and evidence, as well as witness statements based on rumors. Today's investigation is also due to the faulty report prepared in the main investigation where the report was organized. I do not accept the accusations against me," he stated.
WHAT HAPPENED?
