Turkish and U.S. delegations came together at the Syria Working Group meeting held in Washington. The importance of maintaining high-level dialogue between the two countries regarding Syria was emphasized during the meeting. In the joint statement made after the summit, it was stated, "Turkey and the U.S. share a vision of a stable Syria that is at peace with itself and its neighboring regions."
Turkey and the United States (USA) reaffirmed their determination to enhance cooperation for security and stability in Syria once again. Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yılmaz and the U.S. delegation led by his counterpart Christopher Landau met at the Syria Working Group meeting held in Washington.
SYRIA DIALOGUE WILL CONTINUE AT A HIGH LEVEL
Turkey's Ambassador to the USA, Sedat Önal, and the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barrack Jr., also attended the meeting held in Washington D.C. The meeting was evaluated as a sign of institutional cooperation between Turkey and the USA, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high-level dialogue on Syria between the two countries. In the joint statement made after the meeting, it was stated, "Turkey and the USA are determined to increase cooperation and coordination on stability and security in Syria within the framework set forth by our President and President Trump."
LIFTING SANCTIONS AND COUNTER-TERRORISM ON THE TABLE
During the discussions, common priorities regarding Syria were addressed. In this context, the process of lifting sanctions in line with President Trump's instructions and the joint fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism were evaluated in detail. The parties emphasized that preserving Syria's territorial integrity and transforming the country into a structure that does not provide shelter for terrorist organizations is critical for both regional security and prosperity.
"MILLIONS OF DISPLACED SYRIANS WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN HOME"
The joint statement also noted that Turkey and the USA share a vision for Syria that is stable, lives in peace with its neighbors, and maintains its political unity. The statement said, "This vision will also enable millions of displaced Syrians to return to their homes." It was recorded that the meeting was a concrete step in producing solutions to field problems in the strategic partnership between the two countries.
