"EPILEPSY CAN ALSO OCCUR IN CHILDREN"
Dr. Fikret Başkan stated, "Epileptic seizures are observed in children just as much as in adults." He pointed out that in countries where cousin marriages are common, metabolic disorders can lead to epilepsy, and he noted that trauma, infections, and tumors can also trigger this condition.
"EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT ARE VERY IMPORTANT"
Prof. Dr. Güzide Turanlı emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, stating, "If interventions are not made for epilepsy seizures, deaths can occur due to respiratory failure." Additionally, Turanlı highlighted that sudden deaths can be seen in epileptic patients and stated that drug-resistant epilepsy patients should be referred for surgical treatment.
"RISKS BEGINNING IN THE WOMB"
Addressing the factors affecting the development of the fetus in the womb, the experts expressed that poor nutrition of the mother could increase the risk of epilepsy. Dr. Başkan mentioned that most epilepsies originating from the brain usually stem from the temporal lobe, indicating that this is significant in surgical interventions.
