After the postponement of the case regarding the cancellation of the CHP congress, questions arose about the extraordinary congress of the CHP scheduled for Sunday, September 21. Commenting on the issue to Haberler.com, Lawyer Fatma Özel stated that even if a decision of absolute nullity is made at the hearing on October 24, the decision taken regarding the congress and the outcomes of the congress will not be affected.

The court hearing regarding the cancellation of the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP, which was opened at the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance, has been postponed to October 24.

CHP's lawyers Çağlar Çağlayan and Mehmet Can Keysan, along with the lawyer of the congress delegates, Onur Yusuf Üregen, attended the hearing at the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance. Before the hearing, CHP party representatives and those wishing to follow the case gathered in front of the court. It was observed that security teams had taken extensive security measures in front of the court and around the courthouse.

DELEGATE LISTS REQUESTED FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS ON SEPTEMBER 21

The court wrote a letter requesting the delegate lists and minutes from the Çankaya District Election Board and the CHP Headquarters regarding the extraordinary congress scheduled to be held on September 21. The court judge decided to summon the list of delegates and the minutes of the extraordinary provincial congress to be held in Istanbul on September 24 from the Sarıyer District Election Board and the CHP Headquarters. Additionally, it was requested that the CHP Headquarters inform whether the plaintiffs' party memberships are still active, and if they have expired, on what date they ended. The court postponed the next hearing to October 24, 2025.

SO WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?

Evaluating the lawsuit process for Haberler.com, Lawyer Fatma Özel stated that even if a decision of absolute nullity is made at the hearing on October 24, the decisions made at the congress and the outcomes of the congress will not be affected.

LAWSUIT PROCESS

An investigation into irregularities was initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP held on November 4-5, 2023.

Former Hatay Mayor Lütfü Savaş and some delegates had filed separate lawsuits in different courts for the cancellation of the CHP congress held on November 4-5, 2023.

The cancellation lawsuits were consolidated in the file at the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance on February 14. In the hearing on June 30, the court decided to wait for the outcome of the objection to the lack of jurisdiction in the criminal proceedings and postponed the hearing to September 8.

CHP lawyers requested the postponement of the hearing on September 8, stating that September 4-9 is the founding week of the CHP and that activities related to the founding would take place during these dates as per Article 86 of the party's bylaws. The court found the request reasonable and decided to hold the hearing on September 15.
