Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan experienced terrifying moments during his visit to Mount Ağrı for volcano research. On the way back after the examination, Ercan and the people with him were caught in a flash flood, and the Gendarmerie intervened.
CAUGHT IN A FLASH FLOOD WHILE DESCENDING THE MOUNTAIN
Ercan set off to the 3200-meter point of Mount Ağrı, which is the highest peak in Turkey at 5137 meters, with 4x4 jeeps for volcano research.
Suddenly, heavy snow, hail, and torrential rain caused 33 people to be caught in a flash flood while descending the mountain. Gendarmerie teams, dispatched to the area upon receiving the report, mobilized and initiated a rescue operation for the 33 people.
Fortunately, no one from the team, who came face to face with death, was harmed. Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan announced his experience on his social media account.
