Fatih Erbakan, the Chairman of the New Welfare Party, held a press conference before the provincial chairpersons' meeting at the party headquarters. Responding to the question of whether they received a request for a meeting from the DEM Party delegation that met with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island, Erbakan gave a date.

ERBAKAN: WE WILL MEET WITH THE DEM PARTY, BUT WE HAVE RED LINES

Erbakan stated, "The DEM Party has requested a meeting. We will meet with them on Tuesday at 15:30 at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. However, as I just mentioned, our red lines are the indivisible integrity of Turkey, its unitary structure, and also the fact that the terrorist leader must not be allowed to leave İmralı in any way."

"SUCH A SITUATION WOULD RENDER US POWERLESS"

Erbakan continued his remarks as follows: "There are very serious consequences to the release of baby killer Abdullah Öcalan and bringing him to speak at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Such a situation would render us powerless; our state, our army, our security forces. 'We have fought you with all our institutions for 40 years, but we have not succeeded. You still pose a threat to us. Therefore, let’s ask Abdullah Öcalan to save us from this trouble.' In other words, we would give the impression that we have become dependent on Abdullah Öcalan's call. 'Sir, let mothers not cry, let blood not be shed.' Who wouldn't want that? We want bloodshed to stop just as much as everyone else, but we say that it is not possible for the PKK to lay down its arms with a call from Abdullah Öcalan. Why? Because the PKK's own leaders say so.

"ONLY THE FAMILIES OF OUR MARTYRS AND OUR VETERANS CAN MAKE THIS DECISION"

'Abdullah Öcalan cannot make this decision,' he says. Again, two days after Mr. Bahçeli's call, the TUSAŞ attack was carried out. All of these were messages that there would be no disarmament. A great disrespect was shown to our martyrs and veterans. The decision for Abdullah Öcalan to benefit from the right to hope and be released or placed under house arrest can only be made by the families of our martyrs who have bled for this cause and our veterans. No one else can make such a decision. Let’s say the PKK part laid down its arms. What will happen to the PYD/YPG?"

"THE STATE MUST INFORM POLITICAL PARTIES"

Stating that the process is not being conducted transparently, Erbakan said, "The Parliament is unaware, political parties are unaware, the public is unaware. Especially, the state must inform political parties. Yes, the DEM Party delegation is maintaining a meeting traffic, but the state also needs to provide us with information regarding this, rather than relying solely on news from the DEM Party. As we have always said, we are not against the peace process. We certainly say 'Yes' to meeting the demands of our people in the region. We see them as our brothers. We are representatives of a political movement that is most concerned about the troubles of the region, but if a process is to be carried out, it should be conducted with the legitimate official representatives of the local people. It should not be conducted with a terrorist organization," he expressed.
