A fire that broke out in the early morning at a private nursing home in Maltepe, Istanbul, caused great panic. The fire in the special care unit was extinguished quickly, while 17 people affected by smoke inhalation were taken to the hospital. A total of 90 people in the nursing home were evacuated.
The fire broke out around 5:00 AM on the first floor of the three-story Maltepe Nursing Home located on Adatepe Street in the Zümrütevler neighborhood of Maltepe. The cause of the fire, which started in the special care unit, has not yet been determined.
Following the fire alert, a large number of firefighters, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the teams, the flames were brought under control before they spread. The elderly residents and staff of the nursing home were quickly evacuated.
17 PEOPLE HOSPITALIZED
In a statement made by the Istanbul Governorship, it was noted that a total of 90 people were present in the nursing home. It was reported that 17 people were affected by smoke due to the fire and were transferred to nearby hospitals by ambulances. It was learned that the health condition of the injured individuals is good.
INVESTIGATION INITIATED
It was reported that an official investigation has been initiated regarding the cause of the fire. Authorities announced that the safety measures and fire alarm systems in the nursing home will also be reviewed.
