One person died in a chain-reaction accident that occurred on the Northern Marmara Motorway at the Başakşehir location after a driver alleged to be drunk lost control of the steering wheel. Due to the accident, traffic on the motorway was provided from a single lane for a while.

A horrific traffic accident occurred at around 23:45 at night on the Northern Marmara Motorway at the Başakşehir passage, in the direction of Edirne.

According to information obtained, the light commercial vehicle with license plate 34 HRA 328, driven by a driver alleged to be drunk, went out of control for a reason not yet determined. The swerving vehicle hit the car with license plate 34 LA 6360 traveling in the same direction on the left side.

DRIVER EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE

The commercial vehicle, which continued to swerve due to the impact, was able to stop only after hitting the barriers at the side of the motorway. During the violent collision, the driver, who was thrown from the cab, fell to the roadside and was seriously injured. Following the report, police, fire brigade, and medical teams were dispatched to the area shortly.

DIED AT THE SCENE

In the initial examination conducted by medical teams at the scene, it was determined that the driver who was thrown from the vehicle had died. The other car driver, who survived the accident without injury, was taken to the police station to give a statement.

TRAFFIC ON THE MOTORWAY WAS DISRUPTED

Due to the accident, police teams closed two lanes in the direction of Edirne to traffic for security reasons. The lifeless body of the driver who lost his life was taken to the morgue of the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy procedures after the crime scene investigation work.

After the vehicles involved in the accident were removed by tow truck and the road was cleaned, traffic flow on the motorway returned to normal. Police teams are continuing a large-scale investigation into the incident.
