The leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Özgür Özel, commented on the fistfight between AK Party Izmir Deputy Alpay Özalan and Turkey Workers' Party (TİP) Deputy Ahmet Şık in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), saying "Fists are flying where words should be flying." The extraordinary session held for Can Atalay, who was elected as a deputy from Hatay and later had his parliamentary membership revoked, started off tense. The session became chaotic when Alpay Özalan intervened while Ahmet Şık was speaking at the podium, and punches were thrown. The session was adjourned for 45 minutes. "I AM IN AN INCREDIBLE STATE OF SHAME"Speaking about the fight in the Parliament, CHP leader Özel said he was in a state of shame for witnessing what happened. Evaluating the fight that broke out in the General Assembly, Özel stated, "Fists are flying where words should be flying. I am in an incredible state of shame for witnessing this. I invite Numan Kurtulmuş to immediately call for a meeting with the leaders of all political parties or group leaders. Our colleague was injured while trying to break up the fight." "THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE"Özel stated that the situation has become a burden that the Parliament cannot bear, saying, "We are in a situation where the Administrative Officer of the Parliament punches a deputy and commits violence against a woman. This is unacceptable. We saw our colleague get injured while trying to break up the fight. Unfortunately, the attack on the podium was also attempted to be prevented by Ms. Gülüstan Koçyiğit."
