In a middle school in the Bornova district of İzmir, a decision was made to suspend the school administration and teachers who were seen popping champagne in the schoolyard and consuming alcohol within the school premises.

In June, following the footage of a person, identified as a Physical Education teacher, popping champagne in the schoolyard during the graduation ceremony at Bornova Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Middle School, an investigation was launched by the İzmir Provincial Directorate of National Education. After the controversial images from the school, a new video emerged.

PARENTS REACTED

The footage showed teachers drinking champagne while dancing inside the school. The images of teachers drinking alcohol inside the school were also met with backlash from parents.

10 EDUCATORS SUSPENDED

Following the investigation initiated by the İzmir Provincial Directorate of National Education, 10 educators, including 6 teachers and 4 school administrators, were suspended. The statement included the following words: "Regarding the images that emerged on June 6, 2024, at Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Middle School in Bornova district of our province, a suspension measure has been applied to the school administration and the teachers appearing in the footage. This is respectfully announced to the public."
