In Gaziosmanpasa, a major food scandal was uncovered during a raid conducted with a drone by municipal police and agricultural teams on two businesses whose doors were not opened. Approximately 10 tons of spoiled and expired food, including 6 thousand liters of pekmez (grape molasses), tons of kashar cheese, and spices, that were about to be released to the market were confiscated, while an investigation was launched against the businesses that disregarded public health.
Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality Police Department Workplace Hygiene Inspection Team and District Agriculture Directorate teams continue their inspections of workplaces across the district in order to protect public health. During routine checks, tons of inappropriate food products were seized at two different workplaces.
THEY DIDN'T OPEN THE DOOR, DRONE STEPPED IN
During the inspection, when the workplace owners did not open the doors, the teams deepened the operation. With the drone camera brought into play, it was determined that people were inside the workplaces and there was activity inside. In detailed examinations carried out by entering with the determined intervention of the teams, risky products that seriously threaten public health were recorded one by one.
TONS OF MOLASSES, CHEESE AND SPICES WILL BE DESTROYED
The balance sheet of the products seized during the searches and taken into custody for destruction was announced as follows:
- 6 thousand liters of molasses,
- Approximately 1 ton of kashar cheese and margarine,
- 3 tons of expired spices,
- Approximately 7 tons of various spoiled food products collected from shelves.
INVESTIGATION AND LEGAL ACTION INITIATED
While the 10 tons of counterfeit and spoiled food seized were confiscated, an examination and investigation was initiated against the workplace owners by the relevant units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It was learned that the products removed from sale would be destroyed in accordance with the legislation, and it was reported that the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality Police Department teams would continue their food safety inspections across the district without interruption.
