Hamza Özsoy, a 5-year-old who lost his life in a stray dog attack in Van's Saray district, was laid to rest amid tears, while his 10-year-old cousin continues treatment. A Saray Municipality employee has been detained in connection with the incident, and security camera footage of the horrific moment has emerged.
Security camera footage has emerged showing the moments of a dog attack in the Saray district of Van, where one child lost his life and another was injured.
Five-year-old Hamza Özsoy, who died in the attack that occurred in Kazım Paşa neighborhood of Saray district yesterday around noon, was laid to rest in the district cemetery this morning amidst tears, while A.Ö. (10) continues treatment at Van Training and Research Hospital.
1 PERSON DETAINED
Security camera footage of the dog attack, which led to the detention of a municipal employee and the assignment of an inspector by the Ministry of Interior, has been revealed. The horrific moments were captured second by second on camera, and it was stated that the investigation into the incident continues.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER ÇİFTÇİ
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said in his statement on the incident, 'The death of our five-year-old child Hamza Özsoy as a result of a stray dog attack in the Saray district of our province Van has deeply saddened us. I pray to Allah for a speedy recovery for our child Ayaz Özsoy, who is still undergoing treatment, and wish for his swift return to health. This tragic incident has once again demonstrated how essential it is to implement current legal regulations regarding stray animals without compromise and with meticulous care for public order and the safety of our citizens.'
"INSPECTOR GENERAL APPOINTED"
Emphasizing that they are closely following the process, Çiftçi stated, 'Necessary judicial and administrative processes will be conducted with sensitivity regarding any individuals found to be negligent or at fault in the incident. In this context, an Inspector General has been appointed by our Ministry of Interior. We will carefully monitor the investigation process. I extend my condolences to the family of our deceased child Hamza Özsoy and wish patience to his grieving family. We are determined to review all measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again.'
Meanwhile, it was reported that a total of 432 dogs were collected in the Saray district in 2025, and a total of 145 dogs in January, February, March, and April of 2026.
