Forest fires that have been ongoing for four days in Japan's Ehime and Okayama prefectures have affected a total area of 779 hectares. A new fire has started in Miyazaki, and evacuation warnings have been issued for 8,121 people.
The forest fires that broke out on March 23 in Japan's Ehime and Okayama prefectures have not been extinguished for 4 days. According to local authorities, the forest fire that started in the city of Imabari in Ehime Prefecture quickly spread over a large area, burning 306 hectares. Evacuation warnings have been issued to at least 5,988 people, and as of today, it has been reported that 139 people are staying in temporary evacuation centers. Due to the inadequacy of local fire departments, support teams have been requested from Hiroshima, Kagawa, Tokushima, Shiga, Nagano, and Yamaguchi prefectures. The forest fire in the Minami region of Okayama Prefecture has spread to 423 hectares on its 4th day. In the prefecture where evacuation warnings have been issued to 2,133 people, it has been announced that 81 people are staying in temporary evacuation centers.
ANOTHER FOREST FIRE HAS BROKEN OUT IN A PREFECTURE
Meanwhile, Japan's Miyazaki Prefecture has also succumbed to forest fires. It was reported that the forest fire that started yesterday in the Kagamisu region continues to spread today. Due to the flames that have spread over at least 50 hectares, evacuation warnings have been issued for 70 households. It has been announced that 17 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters. The total area of forest land turned to ashes due to ongoing fires in 3 prefectures has reached 779 hectares, and it has been reported that the fight against the flames continues with the support of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (SDF).
1 PERSON HAS DIED
The forest fire that started on February 26 in Japan's Iwate Prefecture resulted in the death of 1 person and damage to 171 structures. The fire, which turned 2,900 hectares into ashes, led to the evacuation of 4,500 people. The flames were brought under control in 12 days.
