Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, was found guilty in a $250 million corruption case and sentenced to 14 years in prison. His wife, Bushra Bibi, also received a 7-year prison sentence in the same case.
The court in Islamabad found 72-year-old Khan guilty of accepting land in exchange for money laundering from a real estate tycoon and allowing illegal money transfers. Judge Nasir Javed Rana stated, "The prosecution proved its case. Khan has been found guilty."
Speaking after the hearing, Khan denied the allegations, saying, "I will neither make a deal nor request a pardon." The former prime minister claims that the nearly 200 cases opened against him are a political conspiracy.
Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, who is currently in custody, was released on bail but was re-arrested following the court's decision.
Khan, who was ousted from the prime ministership in 2022 through a no-confidence vote, was injured in an assassination attempt that same year and held senior military officials responsible for the incident.
The former national team captain, who led Pakistan to the Cricket World Cup championship in 1992, was also barred from running in the elections in February.
Khan's lawyers announced that they would appeal the decision. The investigation is ongoing.
