It has been reported that 4 workers lost their lives in an explosion during the construction of a road tunnel in the city of Chongqing, located in southwestern China. In a statement from the Transportation Commission of Vancou County, it was noted that an explosion occurred yesterday afternoon during the construction of the tunnel that connects Hubei and Sichuan provinces.

INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT IS UNDERWAY

12 workers who were working in the tunnel were injured in the explosion, and 1 worker is missing. Search and rescue teams reached the lifeless body of the missing worker during the night, while 3 injured workers also lost their lives in the hospital where they were taken.

It is believed that the ignition of flammable gases used in the tunnel construction led to the explosion. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
