The heavy rain in the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in Germany caused a flood. In the flood disaster, five people lost their lives and one firefighter went missing. The lifeless bodies of three people were found in Bavaria and two people in Baden-Württemberg.
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED
As the heavy rains came to an end, the water level in the historic city of Passau, where three rivers meet, reached nearly 10 meters, the highest level seen in over a decade. Cargo transportation on the Rhine River in some regions in southern Germany came to a halt, and a state of emergency was declared in the Rosenheim region of Bavaria. Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder described the situation in the region as "serious and critical" in his statement. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in his statement that the flood disaster in the south reminded us that "stopping human-induced climate change" cannot be neglected.
FLOODING IN THE DANUBE RIVER
The flooding in the Danube River submerged areas near the river in Linz, the third largest city in Austria. Along the Danube River in Lower Austria, all river traffic came to a standstill.
