Turkish folk music artist Yavuz Top has passed away at Kartal State Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for some time. It was announced that a program would be held for Yavuz Top at the Kartal Bülent Ecevit Cultural Center, and that the artist would be buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following the funeral ceremony at Kartal Cemevi.

Yavuz Top's death was announced by his close friend Sebahat Akkiraz on her social media account. Sebahat Akkiraz announced that a program will be held for Yavuz Top at Kartal Bülent Ecevit Cultural Center tomorrow at 11:00 AM, and that the artist will be buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following the funeral ceremony at Kartal Cemevi.

WHO IS YAVUZ TOP?

Yavuz Top was born in 1950 in the Tercan district of Erzincan. He started his career as a bağlama artist at Istanbul Radio in 1967. In the 1970s, he began the first attempts at polyphonic folk music in Turkey with the folk music orchestra he established. After 1976, he worked as a bağlama teacher at the conservatory. Following this position, he also left the radio in 1985.
