UEFA is preparing to reorganize the broadcasting rights for the Champions League. Under the new system, Netflix will bid for the global broadcasting rights of one match each match week.
UEFA is preparing for a fundamental change in the broadcasting rights of the Champions League, which millions of people follow with great curiosity.
NETFLIX'S MOVE FOR THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
According to a report in The Times, Netflix will bid for the global broadcasting rights of one match each match week. UEFA aims to increase its annual revenue to over 5 billion Euros with this arrangement. It has been stated that in UEFA's new tender process covering the 2027–2033 period, broadcasting rights will be sold not only on a country or regional basis but also as single match rights globally. This model will allow digital platforms like Netflix and Amazon to make bids covering multiple markets.
IT MAY CREATE A NEW VIEWER PROFILE
Following UEFA's approach, the viewing habits of football fans in Turkey may also change. While there are approximately 2 million Netflix subscribers in Turkey, the platform's start of offering football content could create a new audience. However, it has been noted that this model will not cover all matches, but only one match per week.
