The foreign minister of Greece met with the mayor of Odessa on Sunday after delivering humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian city.
"Discussion focused on the strong presence of Greek Diaspora in Odessa, in light of the long-standing ties of Greece with the city, and the challenges it faces" Nikos Dendias said on Twitter after his meeting with Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov.
Dendias was visiting the city to deliver humanitarian aid for the Greek Diaspora, as well as the rest of the population of Odessa, where he also announced the re-opening of the city's Greek Consulate, said a Greek Foreign Ministry statement.
"I am here today, representing the Greek government, but also the entire Greek society, to transfer aid, first here, in Odessa. Humanitarian aid for the Greek Diaspora, but also for the entire population of the city," Dendias told journalists after his visit to the Greek Consulate General.
He arrived in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau on Sunday prior to his visit to Odessa as part of a humanitarian aid mission. -
