Here are the highlights from President Erdoğan's statements: I wish the Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital, which we have come together to officially open today, to be beneficial for our city, our country, and our nation. I sincerely thank those who contributed. I wish success to the healthcare personnel working in our hospital.
We continue to equip Istanbul with modern healthcare facilities. As you know, a month ago, we opened our 400-bed women's and children's hospital in Bağcılar. Thus, we increased the bed capacity of Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital to 900. Today, we are officially opening another magnificent and tremendous healthcare investment. I would like to briefly mention the features of our hospital. Our Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital has a total closed area of 102,500 square meters.
"WE KEPT OUR PROMISES TO OUR NATION"
Our hospital has a total of 705 beds, including 6 intensive care beds. Of these beds, 657 are in the qualified bed category. We have 88 outpatient clinic rooms in our hospital. A total of 160 doctors, including 75 specialist physicians, and 324 nurses are working in our hospital. In our healthcare facility, which is a Training and Research Hospital, health services will be provided in a total of 19 clinics, including 3 training clinics. Additionally, our hospital has a 36-bed palliative care unit, a disabled sports hall, a GETAT center, and a robotic rehabilitation unit, where our citizens will receive specialized health services in many areas.
When we took on the responsibility of governance in 2002, we promised that we would elevate our country on four pillars. We stated that these pillars are education, health, security, and justice. Today, as we look back, we are experiencing the happiness of having kept the promises we made to our nation.
"NOW THOSE ABROAD COME TO TURKEY FOR TREATMENT"
Health was the most complained-about issue; the system was collapsing. We fought hard to change that structure where healthy individuals came out as patients. We have become a country that can provide home healthcare services to over 2 million 840 thousand citizens.
In the past, our citizens used to go abroad for healthcare services. Now, a large number of people are coming to Turkey from abroad. The system we established in healthcare is being emulated in many parts of the world. Health tourism has become one of the areas where our country stands out.
In 2002, there were 217 health centers in primary healthcare services in Istanbul. Today, we have 1,147 family health centers, and the number of family physicians has reached 4,264.
GOOD NEWS OF NEW NATURAL GAS DISCOVERY
We have opened the doors to a new era in energy. We have reinforced our fleet with new ships. We have been in a fierce struggle to gain our independence in energy. Currently, our ships are also drilling in Somalia. We are very pleased to reap the fruits of our struggle. So far, we have conducted 11 drillings in the Mediterranean and 38 in the Black Sea. The works that started with Abdulhamid Han in the Göktepe 3 well have been completed as of yesterday. Yesterday, we received a promising news. With the meticulously conducted works, we have made a new natural gas discovery of 75 billion cubic meters in the field. With this amount, we will meet the needs of our homes alone for approximately 3.5 years.
