The Greek Foreign Minister Yorgos Yerapetritis provided a general assessment of the country's foreign policy in an interview with the state agency AMNA. GREECE'S TEMPORARY UN SECURITY COUNCIL MEMBERSHIPYerapetritis expressed that Greece aims to serve as a bridge promoting stability between the North and South, East and West, on the occasion of Greece's assumption of the temporary membership of the United Nations (UN) Security Council starting from January 1. He explained that the main priorities of his country in this role would be the peaceful resolution of conflicts, respect for international law, strengthening the role of women in security and stability, protecting children in armed conflicts, combating the climate crisis, and ensuring maritime navigation safety. TURKEY-GREECE RELATIONS AND THE CYPRUS ISSUEYorgos Yerapetritis pointed out that there has been significant rapprochement in Turkey-Greece relations for about 1.5 years, stating that he aims to increase cooperation between the two countries for the welfare and peace of their peoples. He conveyed that bringing the Cyprus issue to the agenda of international politics and the UN is one of the goals of Greek foreign policy, saying, "After we assume our role in the UN Security Council on January 1, our aim is to keep the Cyprus issue actively on the UN agenda." Yerapetritis noted that they support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regarding the UN issue with the Greek Cypriot Administration, stating, "In a world filled with divisions, a united European Cyprus will be a strong symbol for the world, in addition to the prosperity it will offer to its citizens."
