Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as the trustee of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, made statements that angered CHP members and Özgür Özel. Tekin claimed that FETÖ's sleeper cells have infiltrated the CHP, stating, "They are using the CHP against the government with the understanding that 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend,' and then they will try to destroy it."
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court annulled the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, and dismissed Özgür Çelik and his administration; instead, Gürsel Tekin was appointed as the trustee. Following the court's decision, Gürsel Tekin, who entered the provincial building under police escort, spoke to Sabah newspaper at the old provincial building in Sarıyer.
"THEY WANT TO USE CHP"
After starting his duty, Tekin stated that he faced reactions from different groups and claimed that he was being ostracized from the party. Tekin alleged that FETÖ's "sleeping cells" infiltrated the CHP, saying, "They are first using CHP against the government with the understanding that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and then they will try to destroy it. The current administration does not want to see this picture."
"LET THE JUDICIARY DO ITS JOB"
Evaluating the operations against CHP municipalities, Tekin said, "Of course, there will be rotten apples, but it is the party administration's duty to sort them out. Whoever has committed corruption must first stand before the party. I am not declaring anyone guilty or innocent. There is an ongoing judicial process, and we all must comply with it," he stated.
Reminding that no corruption case was opened against the party during Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's term, Tekin said, "Because integrity was dominant. Today, however, they are constantly dragging the party into the corridors of the court."
"WE WILL NOT BE A PART OF THE POLITICAL DEBATE"
Emphasizing that they are working to fulfill the court's assignment, Tekin stated, "It should not be forgotten that court decisions are not obliged to please everyone. Whether you like it or not, you must comply. We will not be a part of the internal party conflicts," he said.
"WE ARE LOOKING FOR MONEY LIKE A BEGGAR IN MEDINA"
Addressing financial difficulties, Tekin noted that the General Center did not send any budget for the building in Sarıyer:
"We have become unable to pay staff salaries; we are looking for money like a beggar in Medina. But we will overcome this as well. We will fight to bring CHP to power; history will write us in golden letters."
