Israel proposed a security agreement that includes expanding the buffer zone around the Golan and declaring a no-fly zone. Damascus has not yet responded; the proposal will be discussed today in London. Israel promises to withdraw from certain areas if the conditions are accepted.

It has been claimed that the Israeli government has presented a comprehensive proposal aimed at reshaping security balances in the occupied areas with Syria. According to the American Axios news site, the draft agreement communicated to Damascus a few weeks ago includes provisions such as the expansion of the buffer zone, the declaration of a no-fly zone, and the limitation of heavy weapons. It was noted that Syria has not yet responded, while it was reported that the Damascus administration is preparing a counter-proposal.

MEETING EXPECTED IN LONDON

According to the claim, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad is expected to meet today in London, the capital of England, with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer to discuss the proposal presented by Tel Aviv. It was noted that the U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria, Tom Barrack, will also be present at the meeting.

PROPOSAL TO EXPAND THE BUFFER ZONE

The report suggested that in Tel Aviv's proposal, it was requested to expand the buffer zone between Syria and the Golan Heights occupied by Israel by an additional 2 kilometers on the Syrian side. Accordingly, the area will be divided into three categories: A, B, and C, and the types of weapons to be deployed in each area will be clearly defined. The presence of Syrian soldiers and heavy weapons will not be allowed in areas close to the buffer zone. However, Syrian police and internal security forces will be able to operate in these areas.

NO-FLY ZONE PLAN

The proposal also demands that the entire area from southwestern Damascus to the Golan Heights be declared a no-fly zone for Syrian aircraft.

CONDITIONS IN EXCHANGE FOR GRADUAL WITHDRAWAL

If the conditions are accepted, Israel proposes to gradually withdraw from the Syrian territories it has occupied since December 2024, except for the strategically important Mount Hermon (Jebel al-Sheikh) point. According to unnamed sources, the main aim of Israel's proposal is to provide an air corridor to Iran through Syria. It is commented that this situation would facilitate possible future Israeli attacks on Iran.
