The Mayor of Bayrampaşa, Hasan Mutlu, who was arrested as part of a 'corruption' investigation against the municipality, has been suspended from his position by the Ministry of Interior.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has arrested 26 suspects, including Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, as part of an investigation launched against the Bayrampaşa Municipality for the crimes of 'embezzlement', 'bribery', 'qualified fraud', and 'interfering with a tender'.

In a statement from the Ministry of Interior, it was stated, "Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu has been suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior following his arrest as part of an investigation into the crimes of 'receiving bribes, interfering with the tenders of public institutions and organizations, and embezzlement'."

THE INVESTIGATION STARTED UPON A COMPLAINT FROM A EARTHQUAKE VICTIM

Furthermore, it has been learned that the investigation was initiated based on a complaint from an earthquake victim who alleged that he was asked for a bribe. The complainant, a café operator, stated in his testimony, "I am from Hatay, and after the earthquake, I returned to Bayrampaşa. I told the mayor that I wanted to open a café, and I received approval. I was directed to the deputy mayor. They told me that it would be tendered to a company and delivered to me. I spent about 2.5 million lira. However, I was constantly delayed during the process. They asked me for 3 million lira and a 25% partnership. When I didn't give it, the café was sealed. I made this investment trusting the promises made." It was learned that the teams that started working upon the complaint determined that the earthquake victim was delayed in legal proceedings, and after an investment of approximately 2.5 million lira, a bribe of 3 million lira was requested for the opening of the café. The teams also found that there were pressures to give 25% of the café to Hasan Mutlu.

In the investigation file against him, it was claimed that Mutlu, who allegedly took the name rights of "MİS'S Cafe" belonging to the municipality for himself, also committed irregularities regarding the sports facilities in Hasbahçe. It was alleged that the company that undertook the operation of the facilities was removed after the municipality's change, the entrance was closed by being excavated with construction machinery, and the door was locked.

ALLEGATIONS REGARDING HIS PRIVATE LIFE

The prepared file also included allegations regarding Mutlu's private life. It was claimed that he had relationships with three women, one of whom he employed at the municipality, promised to help another open a hair salon, and appointed a married woman as the facility manager. When Hasan Mutlu was asked about his relationships with women, he stated that he "knew them" but did not go into further detail. Regarding the money traffic, he used the expression "informal consultancy." As for the tenders, he defended himself by saying, "I am not a commission member."
