The lifeless body of businessman Halit Yukay (43), who set sail from Yalova to Bozcaada on August 4, was found 19 days later at a depth of 68 meters. The search efforts, initiated after his fragmented and partially submerged boat was discovered, concluded after 30 days.
FIRST IDENTIFICATION MADE UNDERWATER
Yukay's body was detected on the seabed, 7 miles off the coast of Erdek. The first identification was made using the watch seen on his left arm, and it was confirmed by matching it with security camera footage. It was determined that the reason for the body not surfacing was due to the rupture of the abdominal cavity.
NAVY FORCES IN ACTION
The Turkish Navy's ship "TCG Işın" had to wait for days due to adverse weather conditions. Work began on August 29 when the weather improved. The rescue ship named "TCG Alemdar," which later reached the area, brought the body to the surface with the help of specially trained divers using an elevator system.
DELIVERED TO HIS FAMILY
The body, brought to Bandırma Port by the Coast Guard boat, was sent to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy. After the examinations, Yukay's body was handed over to his family and taken to Istanbul. The businessman is expected to be buried on Saturday.
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
It is believed that Halit Yukay lost his life as a result of being struck by the cargo ship named "Arel 7." The exact cause of death will be clarified with the autopsy report. The investigation related to the incident is being conducted by the Bandırma Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
