The footage shows the bride and her mother-in-law arguing on the external stairs of the house, after which the argument escalates into physical violence. While the bride's mother records the entire incident, the mother-in-law tries to intervene with the phone. In response, the bride repeatedly hits her mother-in-law. The violence ends with the opening of the house door.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 1 in the Govindpuram area. According to news reports in the Indian press, the bride's name is Akanksha, and her mother-in-law's name is Sudesh Devi. Despite Sudesh Devi going to the police station multiple times to file a complaint, the police initially did not accept her application. However, a formal complaint (FIR) was later registered.
The report also suggested that the bride's family has acquaintances within the police.
Another incident of violence occurred in the state of Maharashtra. A man was beaten by a group of nine people after he reacted to individuals who were making remarks about his daughter. The footage of the incident was shared on social media.
