New details have emerged from the murder of 79-year-old Nihat Salih, whose body was found dismembered in a garbage container in Pendik. The suspect, Bilal D., who denied the accusations in his statement to the prosecutor's office, was revealed to have committed the murder in his living room and then carved his wife's initial on Nihat Salih's back.
New details have emerged about the chilling murder that occurred in Pendik, Istanbul. The 79-year-old Nihat Salih, a father of 8 children, whose body was found in 16 pieces in 4 separate garbage containers, has led to the arrest of his close friend, 39-year-old street vendor Bilal D., on charges of "intentional homicide". Bilal D. was arrested yesterday and sent to prison.
INVESTIGATORS DUG LIKE NEEDLES IN A HAYSTACK
New details have emerged about the chilling murder. Homicide detectives worked diligently to identify the suspect, just like digging a needle in a haystack. Here are the step-by-step details of the unraveling murder. According to allegations, a blanket with bloodstains was found in the container on the left side of Bilal D.'s house. The torso of Nihat Salih was found in the container on the right side of the house, and the arms and legs were found in the container on the upper street of the house. The skinless head of Salih was found in the container 200 meters away from the house. The police focused their efforts in the area where the containers were located and started examining the security camera footage.
THEY SPOKE ON THE PHONE ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT
Meanwhile, the investigators also examined Nihat Salih's phone conversations. A phone call between Salih and Bilal D. was detected at 12:58 on the day of the incident. Bilal D., who was taken into custody 2 hours after the tip-off, claimed that he did not commit the murder. The police investigation also revealed that the victim Nihat Salih had the letter 'M' carved on his back with a knife, and it was determined that Dilek's husband's name started with the letter 'M'.
DNA FOUND ON THE CARPET AND AXE IN HIS HOUSE
Despite the questioning by the Homicide Bureau teams, the suspect, who did not confess to the murder, had his house searched and axes and knives were seized for examination. The police also took the carpet and sofa cover with stains to the forensic department. During the examination of Nihat Salih's body at the forensic morgue, it was determined that his tongue bone was broken and he was killed by suffocation. DNA traces belonging to Nihat Salih were found on the carpet and cover during the examination at the forensic laboratory.
HE SLAUGHTERED AN ANIMAL NEXT TO HIS FATHER
It was determined that Bilal D., who was confirmed to have committed the murder, worked as a shepherd before coming to Istanbul and his father worked at an animal slaughterhouse. It was also found that Bilal D. had 5 criminal records for drug use, insult, assault, and threats, while Nihat Salih had a record for promoting and forcing prostitution in 2006. The suspect was arrested and sent to prison.
