15-year-old Ayşegül Karagöz, who was introduced to the sport of darts in Denizli four years ago, missed the national team selection by losing in the final match for two consecutive years. Determined, Ayşegül worked 4-5 hours a day, and after winning gold medals in Turkey and Europe in the same season, she became a great source of pride as the world champion.
15-year-old Ayşegül Karagöz won the gold medal by defeating her strong opponent, Finnish Lida Lanko, 5-2 in the final of the World Youth Girls Dart Championship held in Goyang, South Korea.
ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME FOR THE WORLD CHAMPION
Ayşegül Karagöz, a student of Necla-Ergun Abalıoğlu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, who brought great pride to Turkey and Denizli as the world champion, was welcomed in a manner befitting a world champion on her first day back at school. Welcomed with Champions League music and torches, Ayşegül shared emotional moments with her friends and teachers as she celebrated her joy. At just 15 years old, Ayşegül Karagöz became the world champion by winning all her matches in South Korea. Ayşegül, who was also the European third in the individual category at the European Championship held in the Netherlands about two months ago, also achieved the European championship in the Youth Girls Team Dart Championship in the same season.
'A DAY FILLED WITH PRIDE AND HAPPINESS'
School Principal Şahin Taşkın, who thanked Ayşegül's family, coaches, and teachers for their support, said, "We are experiencing a day filled with pride and happiness. I would like to thank our dear student, your friend Ayşegül. She has brought us great pride. Perhaps Ayşegül appears as a single person who is the world champion, but thanks to her, Turkey has become the world champion. May God bless her. May God protect her from the evil eye and clear her path, inshallah. Dear young people, always believe in yourselves, and always continue to work patiently. In the end, it may not necessarily be a world championship, but you can reach a point where you will be talked about."
Ayşegül Karagöz also thanked her friends for the enthusiastic welcome, saying, "I would also like to thank my teachers and family who have been with me during this process. They never left me alone."
'AYŞEGÜL DID NOT GIVE UP, CONTINUED TO WORK WITH DETERMINATION'
National Team Coach and Physical Education Teacher Murat Dirier, who played a significant role in Ayşegül's success, described the challenging journey to the world championship with the following words:
"Ayşegül has been playing darts for 4 years. Last year, she lost in the national team selection. Despite finishing the season as the second in Turkey in the stars category and the third in Turkey in the Youth Girls category, she lost in the national team selections. The year before, she aimed to go to the European Championship held in Vienna but lost there as well. She missed the national team after losing in the last matches of two consecutive games. But she did not give up and continued to work with determination. There were days when she worked for 3, 4, and even 5 hours. She continued her studies without neglecting her school, rest, personal needs, and lessons. By continuing her work without neglecting anything, she achieved this success. She showed what can be accomplished by pushing the limits of humanity. She became an example to her friends on how to use time correctly. As a result of her efforts, she became the Turkish Champion, European third, and team European champion, Youth World Champion, and fifth in the world this year. Now she will go to Slovakia. She will participate in the World Electronic Dart Championship. Inshallah, we expect a world ranking from there as well. I wish her success."
