In a case of persistent stalking and harassment of a woman in London, 42-year-old Karl Chads was sentenced to 13 years in prison. It was reported in the case heard at Wood Green Crown Court that Chads was found guilty of violent harassment, theft, and trespassing with the intent to commit a sexual offense.

31-year-old auction writer Grace Smith recounted the horrific harassment process that began after she rejected the advances of Chads, whom she met at work in October 2022. Smith stated that Chads, whom she initially described as "strange," began sending her harassing messages after she rejected him, and the situation worsened over time.

The events culminated when Chads forcibly entered Smith's home twice. Security camera footage showed Chads kicking the door and entering through the bathroom window. Police found lubricated condoms, a bottle of wine, and various tools on the suspect.

During the harassment process, Chads threatened to "rape" Smith and "kill" her boyfriend, and he attempted to sabotage the victim's professional life by defaming her on LinkedIn. Smith reported that she had to take jiu-jitsu classes to protect herself during the ordeal and that the stress caused her hair to fall out.

Chads, described as "dangerous" by the judge, was also given a lifetime restraining order in addition to his 13-year prison sentence. In her statement during the hearing, Smith urged other harassment victims to "collect evidence, keep records, and listen to your instincts."

In a statement following the verdict, Smith said, "Knowing he is now behind bars gives me peace. The fact that he cannot harm anyone else is my greatest consolation."
