Erdoğan, who said, "We are the Turkish nation that has carried the banner of Divine Kerimetullah for a thousand years," stated, "I recommend that CHP Chairman Özel read the telegram I mentioned repeatedly before taking on the defense of the degenerates who disrespect our Prophet through a so-called cartoon."

Later, Erdoğan shared the original version of the telegram on his social media account, stating, "I find it beneficial to remind those who do not know how Turkey was founded, on what foundations it was built, and how the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was opened, by summarizing and simplifying this telegram dated 1920. This is the essential will that founded this country. Turkey was established to protect, sustain, and exalt the sensitivities embodied in this telegram, to preserve and defend these values against all kinds of attacks, and ultimately to carry them forward into the future with strength. The values upon which our states have been built since the day we were honored with Islam are precisely these. Thank God we are Muslims, we are from the Ummah of Muhammad. We are the Turkish nation that has carried the banner of ilay-ı kelimetullah for a thousand years," he noted.
