The final hearing of the case regarding the murder of 21-year-old Meryem Sevim, who lost her life during a live broadcast on TikTok while sitting with her friends at a café in Diyarbakır, where her ex-boyfriend Musa Sevim carried out a gun attack, was held.

TRIED TO ESCAPE WITH A DRUG LIE

In his last defense in court, detained Musa Sevim claimed that he was married to Meryem with an imam marriage and that Meryem, whom he alleged was pregnant, had an abortion at a private hospital using a friend's identity information 20 days before the murder. Sevim stated, "At first, she denied it, but when she accepted it, we broke up. Meryem was under the influence of drugs on the day of the incident; she provoked me. That's why I shot her." However, the autopsy report found no evidence to support Musa Sevim's claims. The Forensic Medicine Institute determined that there were no alcohol, drugs, or stimulants in the young girl's blood.

THEY LOCATED US FROM THE LIVE BROADCAST

During the hearing, B.Ö, a friend who was with Meryem at the time of the murder, was also heard as a witness. In her statement to the court, B.Ö said, "A week before the murder, Meryem saw Musa texting with a girl on his phone, and their relationship deteriorated. Musa called me trying to find out Meryem's location. On the day of the incident, Meryem had a fight with Musa. When Meryem went live on TikTok from the café, Musa's nephews also joined the broadcast and saw us. Then they came over to us. When they reached the table, Musa had two nephews with him. When Musa fired his gun, everyone fled from the table. Meryem was sitting on a chair. Musa left the café, then returned and fired his gun again. I ran to the bathroom out of fear," she said.

WHEN MERYEM SCREAMED, HE TURNED BACK AND FIRED 4 MORE SHOTS

Another friend of Meryem who witnessed the murder, S.S, also stated, "While I was at Meryem's house, her ex-boyfriend Musa called and was cursing and threatening her. He threatened to kill her if she saw other men because she had broken up with him. Meryem opened a TikTok live broadcast. She told me, 'Musa and his friends also joined the live broadcast.' Then they came to the café where we were. Musa suddenly reached for his waist and said, 'There is no forgiveness for betrayal,' and fired two shots. When I hid under the table, I saw that Meryem was injured in her foot and leg. When Meryem screamed, he came back and fired 4 more shots, and Meryem's voice was silenced. I first checked myself, and when I realized I was injured, the police came and took us," she said.

"I MET WITH HIM AFTER HE PROMISED NOT TO HARM HER"

K.T, who was at the café, stated in her testimony, "On the day of the incident, Musa Sevim called me. He asked how I knew Meryem and why I was with her. I told him that we were childhood friends and that there was no relationship between us. He insisted on asking where we were and wanted to meet. After dropping Meryem and the other friends off at the café, I met with Musa. When we went to meet, he had a few other people with him. He insisted on seeing Meryem. I told him that I could arrange a meeting if he promised not to harm her. We went to the café together. Musa sat next to Meryem. When the two started arguing, the waiters warned us. As the argument continued, Musa pulled his chair back a bit to create space for himself and then shot Meryem in the foot twice. When Meryem bent down, he approached from behind and shot her in the head, saying, 'I can do this to a man's mother.' I hid under the table out of fear," she said.

HE RECEIVED A LIFE SENTENCE FOR THE CRIME OF MURDERING A WOMAN

After the testimonies, the court announced its decision, sentencing Musa Sevim to life imprisonment for the crime of intentional murder against a woman. The other four defendants were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
