In the Serik district of Antalya, security guard Zübeyir Canatan (45) killed his wife Songül Canatan (43) and daughter Sena Canatan (7) by cutting their throats with a knife. Zübeyir Canatan surrendered to the police in Ankara, where he went with two suitcases.
HE WAS WORKING AS A SECURITY GUARD IN A HOTEL
The incident occurred yesterday around 10:00 PM in an apartment on the first floor of a three-story building on 30 August Street in the Orta neighborhood of Serik. Zübeyir Canatan, who was working as a security guard in a hotel, killed his wife Songül and daughter Sena Canatan by cutting their throats with a knife for an undetermined reason. Neighbors, noticing that no one had left the house in the morning, knocked on the door, and when there was no response, they reported it to the police. When the police team arrived at the address and also received no response from inside, they opened the door and entered the house. The police found the lifeless bodies of the mother and daughter in the room. The 112 Emergency Health team that was called determined that Songül Canatan and her daughter had lost their lives. After the initial examination by the public prosecutor, the bodies of the mother and daughter were taken to the Serik State Hospital morgue.
SURRENDERED IN ANKARA
After the incident, Zübeyir Canatan, who was determined to have left the house with two suitcases, surrendered to the police in Ankara. It was learned that Canatan, who was taken into custody, stated in his first statement that he had lost his mind and committed the act. Şaban Bülüç, the owner of the house where the murders took place, said, "The family had been renting my house for 2 years. They were quiet people who prayed regularly. We had not heard any fights or noises until now. The woman did not go out much. We would only see her going out to the balcony to hang laundry. I had gone fishing early in the morning, and I came immediately after the grocery store in our neighborhood reported the incident. When I arrived, there were police and an ambulance. According to the information I received from the police, he cut the throats of his wife and daughter. We did not hear any noise or sounds. It is unclear how he did it without making a sound, whether he cut them while they were sleeping."
