While heavy snowfall is expected at the beginning of the week in Istanbul, Prof. Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Aircraft Meteorology Engineering at ITU, warned citizens about the expected adverse weather conditions in Istanbul. Kadıoğlu pointed to Monday, saying, "Those who can work from home should do so, as the temperature and precipitation are likely to be just right for snow."

According to the latest forecasts shared by the General Directorate of Meteorology, a cold wave expected to come from the Balkans and Siberia will affect the country starting from Monday. It is predicted that temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, will decrease to around seasonal norms over the weekend and drop to winter values at the beginning of the week.

Prof. Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu drew attention to the expected weather change in Istanbul in a post on social media. Indicating January 12, Monday, Kadıoğlu stated, "Don't promise anyone for Monday next week in Istanbul. With suitable temperatures, the precipitation will be in perfect snow consistency."

Kadıoğlu noted that the situation for Tuesday is not yet clear, but emphasized the need to take advantage of technology, advising, "I suggest you consider working from home by benefiting from the blessings of technology."

METEOROLOGICAL DATA INDICATES SNOWFALL

According to the 5-day weather forecast report published by the General Directorate of Meteorology for Istanbul and its districts, the weather will proceed as follows:

  • On January 10, Saturday, "heavy rainfall" is expected across the province, while "heavy rain" is anticipated on January 11, Sunday. It is predicted that temperatures will range between 7-10 degrees on Sunday.
  • On January 12, Monday, it is expected that temperatures will significantly drop across almost all of Istanbul and that the precipitation will turn into "snowfall."
  • According to forecasts, snowfall will be effective on Monday, especially in the western and northern districts such as Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Beylikdüzü, Çatalca, and Silivri, as well as in central districts like Kadıköy, Beşiktaş, and Üsküdar.

TEMPERATURES WILL DROP BELOW ZERO

According to MGM data, it is expected that the lowest temperatures on Monday will drop to between 0 and 2 degrees with snowfall.
