In Antalya, gendarmerie teams, upon receiving a tip-off, discovered a strong smell of blood and what appeared to be blood on the ground at the address they visited. The individual, who defended himself by saying, "I was washing tomatoes," was found to have hunted a wild goat after investigations were conducted. The person was fined 661,000 lira.
In 2008, the wild goat, which was included in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species and is still listed as a "vulnerable" species, was hunted in Antalya. Teams from the Gündoğmuş DKMP Directorate, affiliated with the 6th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, acted upon a tip-off that a person had hunted a wild goat in the Semet Plateau of Balkaya Neighborhood and taken it home.
"I WAS WASHING TOMATOES," HE SAID
Teams that went to the address with gendarmerie units detected a strong smell of blood and several small pieces of meat on the ground, which was assessed to be washed concrete with blood. The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, claimed that he had not dealt with any meat today and was only washing tomatoes when asked about the smell. A sample taken due to suspicion was sent for DNA analysis.
A FINE OF 661 THOUSAND LIRA WAS IMPOSED
In the analysis report from the Mediterranean University Seed and Agricultural Biotechnology Research and Application Center, it was determined that the sample belonged to a wild goat. Following this, in addition to a compensation fine of 650 thousand lira, an administrative monetary fine of 11 thousand 548 lira was imposed on the suspect.
