In İzmir, separate indictments were prepared for 5 suspects who were arrested in connection with the incident in which police officer Mehmet Sıddık Temel lost his life. The incident in İzmir Çiğli occurred on October 28 last year around 21:30 in İnönü Mahallesi 9501 Sokak. A group with a feud against the market operators selling alcoholic beverages arrived at the business with 2 cars.
POLICE OFFICER SHOT IN THE SCUFFLE
A dispute broke out between the individuals who got out of the vehicles and those present in the establishment. During the ensuing scuffle, police officer Mehmet Sıddık Temel, who was on leave that day and served at the Bostanlı Police Station, was shot with a gun.
DIED
As Temel collapsed to the ground in a pool of blood, the suspects fled in the cars they arrived in. Mehmet Sıddık Temel, who was taken to Çiğli Training and Research Hospital by ambulance, could not be saved. Temel's body was buried in his hometown of Erzurum after the autopsy at the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institution.
7 ARRESTS, 5 DETENTIONS
In the police investigation, it was learned that the suspects went to a car gallery in the Bayraklı district, where they left the 2 cars they used and fled. The police, who examined city cameras as well as many security cameras, captured 7 suspects identified as being involved in the incident. A gun believed to have been used in the incident was seized during the suspects' body search.

The footage showed that shots were fired at the market from outside, a woman panicked and ran after hearing the gunfire in the street, and the suspects fled by getting into their cars. Cihat Pekgöz, Enis İnal, Mesut Akgül, Muhammed Gönüldaş, and Umut Şahin Gönüldaş, who were sent to the courthouse, were arrested, while 2 suspects were released under judicial control.

The investigation launched after the incident was completed, and an indictment was prepared. It was stated that Mesut Akgül mediated the debt issue between S.S., nicknamed 'Okan', and M.K. On the day of the incident, it was noted that Mesut Akgül met with Enis İnal, who lives in İzmir, and that Muhammed Gönüldaş and Umut Şahin Gönüldaş also attended the meeting at İnal's invitation. It was emphasized that Mehmet Sıddık Temel was also at the same table where the parties met in a türkü house.

Later, it was stated in the indictment that the team went to a tekel bayii, where Akgül called S.S. on the phone, and tensions rose, during which Akgül broke Temel's cell phone by throwing it to the ground.

As the argument between the two escalated, it was noted that Akgül turned to Cihat Pekgöz beside him and said, 'Shoot him,' and Pekgöz fired 6 shots at Temel. It was emphasized that Pekgöz aimed at Temel but also considered the possibility of killing the market owner Ünal Öz.
“CAUGHT WHILE TRYING TO CROSS THE BORDER”
The indictment stated that after the incident, the suspects went to Akgül's car gallery and changed the license plates of their vehicles to facilitate their escape. It was noted that Akgül went to Soma through Umut Şahin and was caught while trying to escape across the border in Silopi.
PENALTIES SOUGHT
In light of the statements and collected evidence, the prosecutor requested life imprisonment for all detained suspects for the crime of 'intentional murder', up to 15 years for Öz regarding the crime of 'attempted murder', and up to 3 years for the crime of 'damaging property'. The indictment was accepted by the Karşıyaka 4th High Criminal Court.
