One of America's leading banks, Citi Bank, is in the news due to an unbelievable mistake. The bank accidentally transferred 6 billion dollars to a customer's account. Bank officials stated that this situation occurred as a result of an error and that efforts are underway to rectify the situation.
The famous American bank Citi Bank made a billion-dollar mistake. A bank employee copied a customer's account number and pasted it into the field for the account number to which the money was to be sent, and then accidentally pasted it into the amount to be sent as well. What happened next was unexpected. After pressing the send money button, $6 billion was transferred to the customer's account.
THE MISTAKE WAS ONLY NOTICED A DAY LATER
No one noticed this big mistake until the next day when a significant shortfall in the bank's reserves became apparent. Authorities immediately took action regarding the mistake that was noticed the following day. In a statement from the bank, it was reported that the input error was detected and corrected, and that it had no impact on the bank or the customer.
SECOND MAJOR MISTAKE IN A WEEK
On the other hand, this mistake at Citigroup was the second mistake that occurred within a week. Last week, it was reported that another customer from the same bank accidentally deposited $81 trillion (approximately 2.9 billion lira) instead of $280 trillion into their account, and that reversing the transaction took hours.
