Geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür emphasized that Kayseri is located on fault lines that carry earthquake risks and that the ground structure is weak. He stated that the fault line in Kayseri could produce earthquakes of magnitude 7 or higher, and he mentioned that earthquakes are a matter of survival.

Geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür emphasized that Kayseri is located on fault lines that carry earthquake risks and that the ground structure is weak, stating that the earthquake is a matter of survival.

Prof. Dr. Görür, in his speech at the "Earthquake-Resistant Cities for a Safe Future" program organized by the Architects and Engineers Group at Erciyes University Sabancı Cultural Center, mentioned that he has taken on a duty in this regard to inform the people of his hometown about earthquake-related issues.

"KAYSERİ SITS ON A FAULT SYSTEM"

Stating that the earthquake is a matter of survival, Görür emphasized that important responsibilities fall on the managers in cities. Providing information about the fault systems threatening Kayseri, Görür said that there are live and active faults around the city and that they will produce earthquakes in the future.

"WILL PRODUCE EARTHQUAKES OVER 7"

Speaking about the seismicity of the city, Görür said, "Kayseri sits right on one of the largest fault systems in Central Anatolia, the Ecemiş fault. It is not just nearby or a little far away; it sits right on it. This fault will eventually produce an earthquake. In terms of its length, characteristics, and properties, it will produce an earthquake over 7."

Görür also stated, "I am not saying anything about the timing. Whenever it happens, my people are important. Kayseri sits on a fault plane, a system. This means Kayseri is an earthquake city. When will an earthquake occur? Only God knows. The recurrence period of the fault knows when the faults will produce an earthquake. The recurrence period of the fault is determined by the movement speed of the blocks around the fault. If the plates next to the fault are moving quickly, that fault accumulates energy and stress rapidly and creates an earthquake in a short time."

"KAYSERİ IS A WEAK GROUND REGION"

Görür expressed that using the state's resources, Kayseri could be an earthquake-resistant city, evaluating the geological structure of Kayseri through maps.

Providing information about the faults passing through the city, Görür said, "Kayseri is not just sitting on the fault; it is sitting on the weakest ground possible. You are building high-rise buildings without considering this. Kayseri is a region with faults, a region with weak ground. You need to create an earthquake-resistant Kayseri based on the data you obtain according to science and technology."
