A factory worker in China set fire to the factory's warehouse after his salary of 2,000 yuan (approximately 13,000 TL) was not paid. The fire, fueled by the wind, caused severe damage to the facilities, and initial estimates indicate that the fire resulted in approximately 4 billion yuan (25 billion TL) in material damage.
A large fire that broke out in the Hui'an district of Quanzhou city, Fujian province, China, has made headlines across the country. A worker at the factory took action after not receiving his daily wage of 400 yuan (2,500 TL) for five days. Left without money before the New Year and forced to sleep under a bridge, the worker set fire near the factory's warehouse.
FACILITY HEAVILY DAMAGED
The flames quickly grew and engulfed the warehouse section of the factory. Numerous fire crews dispatched to the scene intervened in the fire, but the facility suffered heavy damage. According to initial assessments, the fire caused approximately 4 billion yuan (25 billion TL) in material damage.
WORKER DETAINED
Police teams detained the suspect and initiated proceedings on charges of arson and causing significant public damage. While authorities conducted a technical investigation at the fire's point of origin, the incident reopened discussions on worker wages and working conditions.
