In Eskişehir, an interesting scenario unfolded during a traffic accident drill involving injured individuals, which was conducted with the participation of personnel from different units. Moments were captured on camera when a person portraying an injured relative became overly immersed in their role.

A traffic accident drill involving 26 personnel and 9 vehicles from different units was held in Eskişehir. According to the scenario, while the injured were being transported to the hospital by ambulances, EMKU trainers simulated how the relatives of the injured, as well as the teams and press members, obstructed the efforts.

INTERESTING MOMENTS IN THE TRAFFIC ACCIDENT DRILL

Due to Emergency Medical Services Week, a traffic accident drill with injuries was conducted by the Provincial Police Department, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, Provincial Ambulance Service National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE), and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) teams. The drill, aimed at increasing the coordination of emergency response teams, involved 26 personnel and 9 vehicles from different units and was designed to closely resemble a real incident. According to the scenario, those injured in the traffic accident were taken by the teams to ambulances and transported to the hospital.

ATTEMPTED TO REACT TO JOURNALISTS

In the drill, the fear and trauma experienced by the victim and their relatives, as well as the unintentional obstruction of the teams, mistakes made in moments of panic, and the chaos at the accident scene were simulated. UMKE trainer Fazilet Çam, who participated in the drill as a victim, reacted to the press members in accordance with the scenario, simulating the emotional intensity found in real accidents.

"RELATIVES OF PATIENTS OFTEN REACT TO THE PRESS"

Fazilet Çam, a UMKE trainer who has been healthy for about 32 years, stated, "In the cases we attend, we see much more tragic events, fatal cases. We witness such accidents. We tried to show the pain of our injured relatives, which we see in reality, even if just a little, here in a fictional way. Being a healthcare worker requires calmness. If we are not calm, it won't work. Of course, we are human too; we feel and experience pain, but we need to set aside our own pain to maintain our composure in order to help them. Throughout my career, I have encountered many pains and cases, so I tried to play their role here; in a way, it is real because I also added my emotions. Such things can happen to us at any moment. Don't get me wrong; you are doing your job, but people in that situation often react to the press as if to say, 'Look at how we are being filmed.' I tried to play that role for you," she said.

"THEY CAN CAUSE HARM WHILE TRYING TO HELP"

Eskişehir Emergency Medical Services Chief Op. Dr. Ersin Işıldı noted the panicked behaviors of the victims, stating, "We continue our efforts to advance emergency medical services in Eskişehir and provide better services in the field more actively. This is a drill, but it was conducted in a way that truly resembles reality. Our scenario here involves a traffic accident with injuries involving two vehicles. The victims, in their sadness, want to do something, and the truth is that sometimes they can cause harm to our patients while trying to help. We understand the excitement and sadness of our citizens, but especially after the expert teams arrive, it is beneficial for them to assist," he said.
