A 23-year-old young man who wanted to sell a $40,000 watch on a second-hand advertisement site in Bakırköy fell into the trap of scammers who acted like buyers and called him to the office they rented. After the suspects agreed on the price with the young man, they put the watch in a cabinet until the money arrived. Then, with an excuse, the suspects left the office, took the watch through a hole they had previously made in the wall, and escaped.
An incredible theft incident occurred in Bakırköy. T.Y.D. (23), who posted an advertisement to sell a wristwatch worth 40 thousand dollars (approximately 2 million TL) on a second-hand goods sales website, reported to the police that he had been defrauded.
"HE LEFT AFTER PUTTING THE WATCH IN THE CABINET"
T.Y.D. stated in his police testimony that a person who called him as a buyer invited him to his office in Bakırköy. "When I entered the office, the person examining the watch said he liked it very much and would buy it. This person called a friend to instruct him to bring the 40 thousand dollars, which is the value of the watch. Then he took the watch and put it in a cabinet in the room. We waited for a while. Then he said he was going to the bathroom and went outside. When he didn't come back for a long time, I got suspicious. When I opened the cabinet, I realized there was a big hole in the back and that the watch had been stolen," he was reported to have said.
THEY HID IT WITH A SIGN BY DRILLING A HOLE
In the investigations initiated by the Fraud Bureau, it was determined that the security cameras in the building where the office is located recorded the moments of the incident. In the footage, it was seen that one of the suspects hid the hole in the wall where the watch was placed with a 'No Smoking' sign and took it away from there. Following the security camera footage, the police detained one of the suspects, Y.Ç. (54). The other suspect, C.E. (50), who was determined to have fled to Balıkesir, was caught in an operation at the house where he was hiding. During the searches conducted in the house, the watch, valued at approximately 40 thousand dollars, was found.
2 SUSPECTS ARRESTED
It was determined that C.E., who was interrogated at the Public Order Branch, had 11 previous criminal records. The two suspects were arrested by the court they were brought to and sent to prison. The recovered watch was returned to T.Y.D.
